INGEBRIGT HÅKER FLATEN
The Norway-born, Austin-based Ingebrigt Håker Flaten is an internationally sought after double and electric bassist in the jazz, free jazz, and improvised music worlds. He is also a composer and a member of nameless international collaborations, and most known through his work in the critical acclaimed Scandinavian jazz outfits The Thing and Atomic. Ingebrigt won the 2004 Kongsberg Jazz Award, an honor bestowed upon the best Norwegian jazz artist of the festival by the same name. In 2012, he formed The Young Mothers, a fiery gathering of some of creative music’s top players in Texas and beyond. The Sonic Transmissions creative director – who’s constantly on the road playing with jazz VIPs such as Joe McPhee, Mats Gustafsson, Paal Nilssen Love, Neneh Cherry, Thurston Moore, and Ken Vandermark – also runs another sextet in his own name, the Ingebrigt Håker Flaten Chicago Sextet.
